H 11 · Heritage Education Trust

Founded in 1982, the Heritage Education Trust is now based at Boughton House. It is a small but influential foundation, which administers the annual Sandford Awards for Heritage Education. Originally directed only at historic houses, castles and gardens, these awards are now directed also at museums and galleries, following a rigorous process of assessment.

The non-competitive awards recognise quality and excellence in any historic property, regardless of the size or the extent of the educational services provided.

The Trust also offers a consultancy service for members of the Historic Houses Association on setting up an education service.

In 2003 the Heritage Education Trust, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, embarked on the HERO Project to encourage innovative programme at five sites across the East Midlands.
