Callendar House

Falkirk

At Callendar House, Living History is used to tell the story of the house, supported by the survival of much of the original room plan. Interpretative areas have been developed where staff in costume explain their roles in daily life. This is carried out with notable conviction in the great kitchen of 1825 with its roasting fire and spit, where the cook, preparing food from authentic recipes, welcomes the visitor and talks about life in the house and the Forbes family who owned the house from 1783 until 1963. In other areas of the house reconstructions with interpreters include the clockmaker’s and printer’s shops, the store and the garden.  JH
